Nuts and Bolts of California Mechanics Liens, Bonds, Stop Notices and Claims
New Lien Law Effective July 1, 2012
In 2010, the Legislature enacted Chapter 697 of the Statutes of 2010, resulting in changes to the
Mechanics Lien law, taking effect on July 1, 2012. These include changes in the code sections of the Civil Code – recodification. The revisions were an outgrowth of Senate Bill 189 and 190 (Lowenthal), who sponsored legislation recommended by the California Law Review Commission. The entirety of the record of the law review commission can be found at www.clrc.ca.gov - active studies, mechanics lien law - and is worth reviewing.
